Eating Dinner On $100

28 Aug

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Feeling good yet?

When Amanda and I signed the lease for our apartment, we put down that we found the apartment complex through Rent.com, which we did. Now that it’s been about 4 months, Rent.com is finally sending us our $100 Visa pre-paid check card. So we have decided to try something — an experiment if you will.

The experiment: How many times can we eat dinner on this card?

The idea is to maximize the number of times we eat on the card. We won’t be ordering any appetizers or drinks. We’ll only be paying for the actual food and the tip. We’re also going to search out good deals. We aren’t going to walk into a place like Longhorn because it would probably be 1/3 to 1/4 gone immediately.

Problem: Should we share food or not? We aren’t going to starve ourselves — we are going to get enough food to be a full meal — but is sharing cheating? Personally, I don’t think so, but we wanted to know what you thought.

So before we start the experiment, anonymously answer my quick poll question
so I can get some second opinions.

This is the link to the poll (powered by Google Docs)

I’ll post the results of the poll a little later. Thanks.

Best deal ever. Jack in the box. Big Value meal (or something to that name) Comes with a cheeseburger, a taco, fries, and a drink for $2.99. I usually add a jumbo jack on top of that for an additional $1.29. Fills me up for under $5. No tip required. Chea

Cypress Bar & Grill has $0.20 wings on Monday and FROGs Cantina has $1 tacos and beer.
Gilberts has 1/2 off entrees on Mondays.
Tuesday there is $1 sushi at Nikemotos.
Subway and Quiznos have good deals on subs for $4 – $5, as does Publix.
2 slices of cheese pizza at Johnny’s is only around $3.75 and they’re big slices.
The Nook has totchos (tots + nachos) at about $7 and they fill you up.
Jason’s Deli has specials every week at about $5 for a healthy sandwich and free ice cream!

Subway’s Daily 6 Inch is a pretty good deal if you want a soda to go with it. They have a different special 6-inch sub daily (Thursday is Italian BMT, Friday is Tuna) on any bread with any regular toppings, chips, and a drink for under $4.50.

Good luck with this though! I’m glad Amanda is going with you on the plan. Kelly would probably make me take her out to one dinner that costs $100 total.

@Daniel: Me and Subway go WAY BACK. I used to go there every single day for lunch during the summer. Then I got married and I started spending her money. She didn’t like that very much.
