Re: Dinner On $100

31 Aug

We got about 12 responses to my call for help.

The average number of times people thought we could eat out on the card was 45.29 times. The data was a bit skewed though — one person thought we could eat 400 times because they suggested we simply buy a box of pancake mix from Publix.

It was pretty evenly split between “Sharing is fine” and “It doesn’t matter” as well.

It looks like we’ll be sharing all our meals and hunting out the best deals in hopes of eating out about 10 times.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Eating Dinner On $100

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Feeling good yet?

When Amanda and I signed the lease for our apartment, we put down that we found the apartment complex through Rent.com, which we did. Now that it’s been about 4 months, Rent.com is finally sending us our $100 Visa pre-paid check card. So we have decided to try something — an experiment if you will.

The experiment: How many times can we eat dinner on this card?

The idea is to maximize the number of times we eat on the card. We won’t be ordering any appetizers or drinks. We’ll only be paying for the actual food and the tip. We’re also going to search out good deals. We aren’t going to walk into a place like Longhorn because it would probably be 1/3 to 1/4 gone immediately.

Problem: Should we share food or not? We aren’t going to starve ourselves — we are going to get enough food to be a full meal — but is sharing cheating? Personally, I don’t think so, but we wanted to know what you thought.

So before we start the experiment, anonymously answer my quick poll question
so I can get some second opinions.

This is the link to the poll (powered by Google Docs)

I’ll post the results of the poll a little later. Thanks.

Home Theater

25 Aug

For about the past week or so we’ve been watching a lot of movies. A LOT. Last Friday I got extremely sick and then immediately gave it to Amanda, who missed four days of work. We spent a lot of time in bed drinking water, eating chicken noodle soup, drinking Ensure, and watching movies.

I didn’t really notice that I placed the movies we watched in their own pile until today. Along with the movies we rented from MovieCube inside Kroger, here’s what we’ve seen in the past week or so.

  1. 50 First Dates*
  2. Office Space*
  3. Ocean’s Eleven*
  4. American Beauty*
  5. Mr. & Mrs. Smith*
  6. The Weather Man*
  7. Wedding Crashers*
  8. Rounders*
  9. Big Fish*
  10. Season 3 – How I Met Your Mother*
  11. Seven Pounds
  12. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
  13. Doubt
  14. Confessions of a Shopaholic
  15. Slumdog Millionaire
  16. The Incredible Hulk

Marriage After A Month

20 Aug

So we’ve been married a little over a month now. Things are definitely different.

I could get used to this homemade dinner thing every night. We’ve been having some really great stuff — chicken pot pie, red potatoes and chicken, stir-fry, pork chops, etc. I also LOVE having lunch made for me every morning.

I am so thankful to have been blessed with such an amazing partner.

Something I’m never going to miss… sleeping alone. It’s REALLY GREAT to be able to snuggle up next to someone in the middle of the night (even if the only reason you do is because they are taking up half the bed and ALL of the covers). It’s an amazing feeling waking up and getting to start my day by looking at her.

I mean, I used to have to look at myself, so this is a pretty nice upgrade.

It’s a new phenomenon as well that when one of us gets sick, the other gets sick. Even when I lived at home with parents, a good 10 years ago, I don’t really remember catching some residual bug from anyone in the house. But now, I get sick on Friday and she gets sick on Sunday. It’s even more difficult to try and figure out what caused it since we are both eating the exact same thing and living in the exact same place.

So moral of the story, quarantine.
