The beginning of a beautiful friendship

30 Oct

Since we are soon to be officially Charmanda, Charlie asked me to be a guest blogger on his website. I was of course honored to share my thoughts with his public. I’ve never journaled for the masses, but I thought I would give it a try. I mean everyone’s doing it.

It makes me wonder how all of this got started. Whatever happened to writing your inner most thoughts to… well… yourself? Who thought, “I think I’m going to write about my daily life and post it on the internet?” I mean who would want to read that crap?

Well, apparently lots of people. Strange as it sounds, people actually like this kind of stuff. Who knew?

I actually got really into reading the blog of a teacher I had in Oxford. It’s the whole idea that when students see their teachers out in public buying groceries or something, their first response is, “You buy groceries here?” Teachers aren’t supposed to have lives outside school. That’s why I really enjoyed reading her blog. It was like I could peak into her personal life. I especially enjoyed her blog about how she got so drunk on one of our last days at Oxford, she had to be escorted back to her room. Niiiiice! You just couldn’t find out something like that any other way.

I think it’s the little voyeur in all of us. It’s the same reason Facebook is so successful. We want to be able to know what’s going on in people’s lives, especially the stuff they wouldn’t normally share with us. People are strangely open when it comes to the internet. I’m amazed what people will put out there.
